Glacier GOLD 12a (Charging Instructions):
Parts Required for average automotive system: 12-15oz of Glacier Gold Refrigerant One universal Hose In R-12 Systems, one set fitting adapters (1X Low Pressure. 1X High Pressure)
All are available from Glacier Gold Products and come in a kit. Preparation All fittings and components should be hand tightened, avoiding damage to 'O' rings. Do not over tighten (snug by hand + extra 1/2 turn). You are cautioned not to use a wrench.
The refrigerant is in liquid form and the can must be inverted while filling. Back off tap on hose, to avoid premature puncturing by needle. Screw tap end of hose on to Glacier Gold can, avoiding any cross threading. NB: R-12 systems (older vehicles) will require the two (2) part conversion fittings be attached. Do the math. One lb. of GG-12a is equivalent to three lbs. of Freon. (for 134a systems...6oz. of GG-12a is equivalent to 16oz. of 134a.)
Charging: Locate the 'Low Pressure' service port (inlet) of the A/C system. Generally capped by a blue or black cap. [Do not connect to the high pressure service port (outlet) of the A/C system] Remove the low side dust cap. Connect hose fitting by pushing onto the male service port. Ensuring the fitting fits snugly into place. Ensure that the the affixed hose, can & fittings are clear of all moving parts of the engine, turn A/C to maximum setting and start engine. (Do not perform service in a closed environment) Turn Tap in clockwise direction, this will cause the needle to puncture can. Ensure can is held in an inverted position during entire charging procedure! Turn tap in counter-clockwise direction (back off) this will release Glacier Gold Refrigerant into the A/C system.
Following the cycling of the A/C compressor on and off about each 45 to 60 seconds, turn tap to closed position (clockwise). This will stop flow of refrigerant to system. Check vent for cooling. If cooling is inadequate or compressor is cycling too excessively add more refrigerant by alternately turning tap on and off. Low side pressures should read about 30-38 psi. Do not overfill. Give the system adequate time plus to determine if it is working correctly. When charging procedure is complete turn off tap. (close tightly) Remove quick connect fitting by pulling sleeve towards you. Coupler will snap off.
(If you purchase the R-12 cantap/chargehose on this site, it taps the refrigerant cans and connects directly to R-12 service fittings)
